The Shakespeare Concerts Presents a Free Evening of Music for Voice and String Quartet

At Marsh Chapel, on the campus of Boston University, The Shakespeare Concerts will present an evening of music for voice and string quartet, Friday, October 18th at 7:00 PM. Included on the program of music by composers from the 19th to the 21st centuries will be Joseph Summer’s setting of two sonnets by American poet Robert Kelley: Sonnet 4 and Spring Sonnet, the former with mezzo soprano Vera Savage, and the latter with soprano Andrea Chenoweth. Savage and Chenoweth will together sing Summer’s setting of Shakespeare’s Sonnet CXVI, and will be joined by tenor Omar Najmi in a performance of Sonnet CXLIV. Other works on the program are Eric Chaselow’s Five Simic Songs; Arturo Fernandez’ Reflections on a Turquoise Bee; Omar Najmi’s The Comet at Yell’ham; Hannah Cai Sobel’s Jellyfish; three works by Peter Warlock; and songs of Brahms, Robert Schumann, and Clara Schumann arranged for voice and string quartet by Aribert Reimann. The Ulysses string quartet will perform. Brendon Shapiro serves as music director.
